As a Santa Ana–based wedding photographer, I know the Old Orange County Courthouse inside and out — from the best ceremony rooms to the most timeless photo spots nearby. Being local means I know how to work quickly, navigate downtown crowds, and capture clean, natural moments without stress. If you want courthouse photos that feel elevated, effortless, and intentional, you’re in the right place. Planning a courthouse wedding at the Old Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana? Here’s everything couples need to know before saying “I do” — minus the confusing government language.

Witness Rules (Public Marriage License)
A public marriage license requires at least one witness at the ceremony.
You must bring your own witness — the courthouse does not provide witnesses.
No witness = no ceremony, no exceptions.
* Pro tip: Your photographer can be your witness if needed.
Marriage License Basics (Quick Facts)
Licenses are valid for 90 days from issuance.
No residency or citizenship requirements.
Both partners must be 18+ years old.
No refunds for expired licenses or plan changes.
Appointments & Applications
All couples must complete the marriage application online before visiting.
Licenses are available via walk-in or appointment, but appointments are strongly recommended.
Appointments can be scheduled online through the Orange County Clerk-Recorder.

What to Bring on Wedding Day
Valid government-issued photo ID for both partners.
Ceremony rooms are reserved for Clerk-Recorder customers only.
Only County Deputy Clerks perform ceremonies — outside officiants are not allowed.
